What We Believe about
Bible Translations
Over the years bodies of believers and good and godly individuals have differed in their opinions and preferences regarding texts and translations. Colonial Hills Baptist Church does not adhere to the tenets and teachings of the militant “KJV-Only” movement. The statement that “the KJV is the only translation for the English-speaking world” is both theologically aberrant and historically inaccurate. We reject the extremes on both sides of the translation issue–the extreme that endorses liberal translations that “water down” the Scripture due to their theological bias (to the point where they no longer accurately represent the original text) and the opposite extreme of complete rejection of any and all translations dated after the KJV. Essentially the use of a particular and faithful translation is based on preference, and there may be many preferences within a congregation. As long as personal preferences are not unbiblical, it is commanded that disciples of Christ respect and love one another
(Romans 14).
